An Operating System is the fundamental software which controls a PC. It takes care of how your hardware functions, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, and the prioritization of apps when multiple ones run at the same time. Each and every program that's installed on a notebook or a desktop operates by sending requests to the OS for different services by using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be done via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the Operating System is what runs a hosting server as well as all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
If you decide to purchase one of our VPS server
plans, you will be able to select one of the three Linux distributions that we offer for the Operating System of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are among the most well-known and most stable server OSs out there and we offer them in order to give you a choice for the software environment of your machine in case that you wish to install some app with particular requirements regarding the packages that must be present on the web server. We also offer three internet hosting Control Panels and which one of them you may use depends on the OS that you've selected. We leave the possibility to change the server Operating System open, so if you want to use an app that requires an OS different from the one that's already present, we can always reinstall the VPS. We can also keep the OS up-to-date on a weekly basis by installing any security updates which may be released.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server
packages that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license fees, but they are also known as the most stable and secure OSs. We offer three different ones since each one of them is backed by a different community. The packages which you could add on your hosting server are different and this may matter if you want to install some piece of software with specific requirements about the hosting environment. In this light, the internet hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the Operating System that you will choose. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, but if necessary, we can always set up the server once again with another one upon your request. As an additional service that you could add to the plan whenever you want, we can update the OS regularly in order to keep it as risk-free as possible.
